Emily

‘I would love to own my own Nursery…but it takes baby steps to get there’

At 16, Emily went to college to study the Level 3 in Childcare. After four months she soon realised all the work was theoretical and assignment based with very little practical experience. Emily wanted to gain the experience and build her skillset whilst studying towards a qualification. Her sister is on an Apprenticeship and explained the benefits and, after hearing about SwiftACI through her friend, decided to apply for a place on the course.

A few weeks later Emily started her placement, on the Level 2 Childcare programme, in a Day Nursery working with children nine months to five years old: ‘It has been a big challenge settling the children when their parents leave them and managing their behaviour but the course has strengthened my abilities and begun to prepare me for a career in Childcare’. Emily, now three months into the course, is enjoying success having completed assignments in Positive Behaviour, Paediatric Emergency First aid and Equality and Inclusion, to name a few. She looks into the future of developing the children and helping them prepare for life as she plans to undertake the Level 3 and beyond: ‘The course is broken down so it’s easy to understand and the great atmosphere and friends I have made make the course all the more enjoyable’
