How does it work?

  • The apprentice spends part of the time working with the company and part of the time training

What is an Apprenticeship?


An Apprenticeship is a government-funded vocational training initiative for young people, whereby formal off-site training is combined with on-the-job experience and assessment. The result is a well-qualified and vocationally competent individual. Young people are increasingly choosing the apprenticeship route as a career-focused alternative to further education.

We select on character, personality and commitment as much as intellect, social skills and a good general education especially in English and Maths.

What's the deal?


The apprenticeship programme is delivered through a flexible and supportive programme which lasts twelve months, during which time your apprentice(s) will gradually be integrated into your business, blending classroom learning with in-the-field experience.



The Swift ACI Academy has multiple intake periods during the year and Academy teams run a recruitment campaign seeking to attract the highest calibre of potential talent. Numeracy, literacy, personality and commitment assessments are undertaken before we even think of inviting you to consider the individuals we propose. There is no obligation on you to accept anyone we suggest at this stage. In addition to attracting new entrants to the sector we would also be pleased to discuss training your existing members of staff on the Apprenticeship programme, supporting your own internal training and development activities.



Once you agree to employ one or more apprentices we will work with you to ensure that your business is fully prepared to start your new apprentice.

Education and Experience blend


The Swift ACI Apprenticeship Programme is a flexible delivery model, developed to provide apprentices with recognised qualifications, underpinned with the practical and valuable experience secured via employment as an apprentice within a range of businesses. The Swift Academies provide an excellent environment for the off the job training, which is integrated into a structured work based programme, designed to maximise the apprentice development and achievement levels and meeting the needs of employers.

In addition to gaining valuable qualifications, the Swift Apprentice also benefits from the programmes broader focus and delivery on Functional Skills, Employee Rights and Responsibilities and Health & Safety Awareness. Learners can commence their apprenticeship at any time once employment is secured and will attend the off the job programme at the Swift Academy at the next available date.

Cost to Employer


The employer will be responsible for paying the apprentice a wage of £110 per week. You will also need to ensure there is suitable supervision, support and mentoring in place to support the apprentice. However, the return on your investment is more than delivered via your apprentices newly gained skills, qualification and experiences to contribute towards your business success.

This is without doubt the most cost-effective way of recruiting well-qualified staff


Once your apprentice successfully graduates from the Academy, you will be responsible for the continued employment of the individual and meeting the appropriate minimum wage requirements.
